For starters, The University of Texas is getting a new football coach, Charlie Strong. He’s coming from the University of Louisville and everyone has high hopes that our local university will do great things in the coming football seasons.
Life beyond football (it’s that time of year) includes all of the new construction that is abound throughout the area with the building of The Colorado Tower, IBC Bank Plaza, Seaholm Power LLC, JW Marriott Hotel, Westin Austin and the expansion of South Lamar Boulevard.
With all of Austin’s economic growth, Google Fiber picked our city to install high-speed internet that will be over 100 times faster than normal speed and this will help with the expansion of local companies like Apple and National Instruments. In fact, NI announced recently that they will be adding 1000 jobs to the Austin area.
In addition, our education system is growing exponentially with new schools and the most exciting development in 2013 has been the plan for the Dell’s Medical School to be built soon on the campus of the University of Texas! This will add tremendous opportunities for students and the Austin area.
More good news for Austin includes the fact that Blockbuster films are being made here with big star names like Natalie Portman and Ryan Gosling. The film industry has always been significant in Austin, but it just got bigger due to the $95Million that Texas lawmakers allocated to incentives for film makers in 2013.
Entertainment continues to be a high priority in Austin in the coming years with SXSW, ACL Festival, Formula 1 racing and now the X-Games that will be held in Austin from 2014-2017.
It’s no secret that Austin is great place to live with our eclectic culture, live music scene, wonderful people, delicious food and fantastic weather. In fact, many people say that once they visited our city, they never wanted to leave.
