Considering a Kitchen Remodel? Here Are Some Tips to Help You Get Started

No matter the scale, a kitchen remodel is no easy feat. But, with that being said, it can be done and done right if you keep a few things in mind. Here’s a look at a few tips to help you get started on your kitchen remodel:

    Plan Way Ahead
As it turns out, you should start planning your kitchen remodel a year ahead of time. The more you plan, the more smoothly the project will go. First and foremost, prepare your budget. From there, hire a contractor, start designing the layout and begin looking for materials you want to include (countertops, cabinets, appliances, backsplash, flooring, etc.) that fit within your budget. Once you have your plan, stick to it. Changing a major appliance or layout halfway through can throw everything off.

    Design it For You
Make the kitchen layout work for you. Do you want a galley kitchen? Do you want a big center island? Consider what you want and try to make it happen. After all, it is your kitchen.

    Think Resale Value
Always consider the resale value when remodeling any space within the home. Especially the floors and countertops. Granite or quartz are great options for countertops, while tile is suitable for flooring.

    Measure Multiple Times
If you’re handling the project yourself, always measure more times than you think! You don’t want to order a product only to realize you didn’t order enough. One more thing. There is more than meets the eye with a renovation project. To be safe, it may be in your best interest to hire a professional to measure the rooms.

Know When to Ask for Help
Even if you are good at construction, there is always a point where you may have to ask for help and hire a contractor. Recognize which areas of the project – plumbing, electric, etc. – you may need some help with before getting started and hire a contractor now. Hiring a professional now will save you time and headache.

    Be Realistic About Time Frame
A remodel takes time. There is no doubt about that. While your kitchen is out of service, have a temporary kitchen space set up with the bare essentials: microwave, tabletop and small fridge. You won't be cooking any fancy dinners, but it will give you space so you can still live in the house while the remodel is happening.
