However, what if there was a way to get to the place we want to go with what we have instead of trying to win the lottery? Wouldn’t that be lovely?!?!
I recently read an article that made me think that with a little patience and a lot of discipline – financial freedom can be closer than we think.
The most important thing we can do to get a hold of our finances, spend less and save more is to set a budget.
Budgets don’t have to be elaborate plans that only a CPA can read. It should be simple, to the point and basically just a list of what you spend on a monthly basis versus what your income is.
Starting small will help you not only get started, but also help you continue to make changes.
Being efficient with your money will help you save more and spend less. The best way to do this is to know what you are spending.
The list of expenses on a budget should include the following:
- Fixed Expenses – Utilities, food, car payment, child care, etc.
- Once or Twice a Year Expenses – Taxes, car insurance, home insurance, clothes, vacations, car maintenance, etc.
- Extra Expenses – Going out to dinner, entertainment, etc.
Setting a budget is the first step towards financial freedom. Once you know what you spend, you can then shop around to save money on any or all of your expenses. These savings can add up and then go towards your future.
Don’t wait until January 1st to take a look at your budget, revamp and revisit what you are doing to reach financial freedom. The time to make changes is NOW to make sure you are on the right path.
