    Water Conservation

As temperatures rise and the rain subsides, water conservation should be a top priority.

It sounds strange to talk about water conservation when we’ve had one of the wettest years on record this year, but we also know how quickly things can change and how detrimental a drought is to our city.

Austin is currently in the “water conservation” stage which means you can:

    • Water only on your assigned days and times:

      • Hose-end Sprinklers – two days per week - midnight to 10 a.m. and/or 7 p.m. to midnight

      • Automatic Irrigation – one day per week - midnight to 10 a.m. and/or 7 p.m. to midnight

    • Wash vehicles at home with an auto shut-off hose or bucket

    • Have a charity car only at a commercial carwash

    • Be served water at restaurants by request only

    • Enjoy patio misters at commercial properties (including restaurants and bars) between 4 p.m. and midnight

    • NOT waste water

Failure to abide by these restrictions can result in a fine up to $500.

However, there are more ways to conserve water at home on a regular basis – regardless of the water restrictions.

    These include:

    • Make sure toilets don’t leak.

    • Turn off the water when brushing your teeth.

    • Replace clothes washer with Energy Star models that use less water.

    • Take shorter showers.

    • Use dishwashers only with full loads.

    • Fix leaky faucets.

    • Use a rain barrel.

    • Sweep driveways instead of hosing them off.

    • Choose drought tolerant plants.

Water is a precious commodity and we all want to make sure we have enough.  So, we encourage you to abide by the restrictions and take measures to conserve water as much as you can!!
