This heartbreaking loss just reminds us, once again, how fragile life is and how treacherous water can be – no matter how old you are.
Last year around this time, we posted a blog about Water Safety and those same suggestions hold true today. However, this latest water disaster drives the point home that we continue to need to be reminded to take the necessary precautions when dealing with water.
Statistically, June and July have the highest number of drownings each year. In Texas alone, according to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, 73 drownings occurred in 2014.
Thirty-one drowning deaths have happened to date in 2015 in the state of Texas and we are only in June.
Since drowning is the number one cause of death for children under the age of four – yet, the most recent Austin drowning was a 15-year-old – we thought our readers would benefit from the following websites to educate themselves on what to do and what NOT to do when around the water.
- Texas Department of Family & Protective Services
- Colin’s Hope
- Centers of Disease Control and Prevention
We wish you all a healthy and safe summer full of fun in the sun!!
