2018 Kitchen Design Trends

    Written by the Bucher Group

As home design trends change every year, it is extremely beneficial to look to the future when considering a home renovation– especially if you are thinking about selling your home in the coming months or years. What styles are experts predicting for 2018? From bold hardware to two-toned cabinets, below is a list of the 2018 kitchen design trends:

    Granite is Out!

Granite, while popular for years, is on its way out of our kitchen. What’s the new trend in kitchen countertops? Quartz – it’s durable, fresh and has incredible finish options. What other options are trending? Concrete and butcher’s block countertops – the latter is especially attractive for a center island.

    Bold Hardware

While chrome and satin are still the go-to options for a classic look, it appears that hardware trends are going BOLD in 2018. For the ultimate bold statement, add shiny brass throughout your home. If you’re looking for something not quite as daring we recommend rose gold – it stands out, but not as much as shiny brass.

    Custom Sinks

Custom is in! Look for custom stone sinks to appear throughout houses in 2018. Even though stone sinks are the trend, many individuals will stick to porcelain sinks to maintain a classic look while keeping the cost down.

    Two-Toned Cabinets

All white kitchen cabinets are on their way out! Two-toned, or different colored upper and lower cabinets, can add visual interest and contrast to your kitchen space. This technique works particularly well with darker lower cabinets and lighter upper cabinets. If you’re not 100 percent sold on two-toned cabinets, but you want to try something new, consider just painting your kitchen island a different color. Doing so achieves visual interest and contrast while not having to go all out.

Colors – Especially BLUE and Navy

Colors are the biggest trend of 2018 – especially BLUE! Look for colors to appear on everything: cabinets, fabrics, appliances, doors and more.

    Subway Tile is Out!

The days of the subway tile backsplashes are nearly at their conclusion! Look for any tile with a unique color or pattern to be the backsplash trend of 2018.

Which of 2018’s kitchen design trends do you plan on adding to your home? Personally, we love the two-toned cabinets and unique tile backsplash.

It’s almost amusing to me that quartz has replaced granite for counter-tops. In the area I live in, so many people confuse the two types with each other. I do think that it’s a great idea though, as quartz is stronger and more scratch resistant. In my geology course, I learned that it has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs Hardness Scale, with diamond ruling at number ten. I think this type of counter-top would be great for those that like to project or have children.

It sure is nice that you mentioned how porcelain sinks will give off a classic look while still keeping the costs down. My mother is looking to sell his vacation property, and she’s thinking of remodelling the kitchen to increase resale value. I’ll be happy to let her know that she won’t go wrong with porcelain sinks. She’ll definitely have to start reaching out to nearby kitchen remodeling contractors to give her a quote for the project.
