I wanted to love this school, but the staff and administration let both me and my child down. The inability of the staff to be flexible to all performance levels in the classroom coupled with a severely inept administration was truly disappointing. In addition, if you're not part of the "in crowd" of mom's forget feeling like you're in a small, community based school. Transferred out and my child did a complete 180 and actually LOVES school now. Hoping for better days for Deep Wood.

Transfered my daughter to this school this year, and we couldn't be more thrilled with the decision. The principal is calm, organized, welcoming, and knowledgeable. My daughter's teacher has just the right combination of classroom discipline and warmth. The school is calm and organized during the morning drop-off and afternoon pickup -- a far cry from the previous RRISD school we attended. Afterschool enrichment programs engage the kids in multiple interest areas- cooking, art, film-making, dance, math and science, etc Glad to be in this community.

Great school, nice, friendly and involved parents, awesome principal, Ms Perkins, and the staff is also wonderful. Mrs. Williams is a very good "K" teacher and we look forward to next year. We have moved but will continue to drive to Deepwood because our experience ( and my grand child's) has been good. She was asked if she would like to try a new school and she is very happy to stay at Deepwood. It's a nice size school and parents are down to earth, good people to have for involvement with school activities. The education has been very good. I recommend this school and neighborhood.

Deepwood is simply THE BEST! I attended this school when I was a child and was thrilled when my son was able to attend as well. Most of the teachers are still there from 20 years ago as well as the counselor. In my families opinion, the staff is like none other. My son attended a different school last year and the difference in what he has learned in just a half year is UNBELIEVABLE! The teachers care and best of all, they know how to teach the kids! I don't know why someone posted that they do not go out of their way for gifted children b/c that is just what they did for my son. He was ahead in everything and scoring at above grade level. They worked with him on making sure he was challenged everyday. Deepwood is the best in TEXAS!

As a parent, I am very pleased with this school. It is not only a school, it is a community, and that translates into more attention for each student. Teachers know the students outside their own grade level, and students feel a sense of belonging. Small elementary schools such as this one can be very good for our children because they can incorporate progressive education alongside a sense of civil responsibility. Kudos!

I agree that Deep Wood is not dirty. While the school building maybe older than others in the district, it is not the structure that makes a great school. It is the teachers and the staff, which, btw, are fantastic. We are very pleased with the community feel of the school and absolutely love the Principal, Mrs. Perkins. Although this is our first year to attend, so far we are impressed and look forward to the next 5 years ahead. And, btw, the PTA is awesome as well.

I'm not sure what this parent means by 'out of date', but Deep Wood is not dirty. We are very lucky because Deep Wood is small compared to other schools in the area, so it's not so overcrowded and the kids get more public attention than other RRISD elementary schools. They don't use corporal punishment, which tells me that this school is more progressive than many in Texas. Without knowing what the other parent meant, I can't defend our school well, but there's a tidbit.

This school is dirty and out of date, the principal and teachers seem to also be a little dated in their thinking.

I love this school! My daughter was attending as a transfer student because I taught in the district, and sh elearned so much and felt loved and at home. Mrs. Roithner was the best first grade teacher I could have asked for. As a teacher myself, I scrutinize everything my childrens' teachers do, and I have nothing but praise and admiration for the teachers and administration at Deep Wood. We'll miss you all!

I love Deep Wood, it's a wonderful school. My two children are doing great. Mrs. Veach puts great importance on academics but also character, not every school does that.

This school is falling behind in academics. My children are learing what is taught in other districts a year later. This is a good school if your child is the 'norm' and does not require additional assistance. I understand their funding does not support special assistance however, they don't fight for the kids either.

Deepwood is a wonderful school! My 3 children love their teachers and the school. I moved my family to the neighborhood this summer and was delighted on how well the school was ran. Mrs. Veach is the school principal and very well respected and liked by her staff. The teachers hug the kids and give high fives upon their arrival to school. It is apparent how well the kids like the teachers and the school. I know everyone employed by the school loves what they do and it shows! I trust the teachers and staff with my children and I have seen the difference in my children since they have started attending Deepwood. It is a very encouraging environment and the kids are # 1. I'm very proud to be a Deepwood Dinosaur parent.
