SXSW In Austin

Friday marks the beginning of another SXSW here in Austin, Texas.

What started out as a small music event to help local artists collaborate and showcase their talents with 700 registrants in 1987 has grown to over 16,000 registrants.  Not only has the number of participants grown, but so has the industries included.

In 1994, the film and high-tech industries were added to the SXSW music festival because of their major role in Austin’s local economy.  With these event additions, another 32,000 registrants now visit Austin each year in March.

Moreover, SXSW has created an environment where attendees can enjoy music, watch films, participate in educational sessions, meet with potential clients and network with industry leaders.

SXSW has uniquely evolved into an event that combines a festival, a conference and a trade show together  in a way that allows the creative community from all over the world share their talents, best-practices and information.

SXSW demonstrates Austin’s eclectic culture, originality and ingenuity.

The schedule of this year’s event, along with pricing and other information can be found at www.sxsw.com.  Much of the event takes place at the Austin Convention Center, Palmer Events Center, Embassy Suites Arboretum and downtown Austin.

Interactive: March 7-11. The five keynote speakers include Anne Wojcicki, Chelsea Clinton, Adam Savage, Neil deGrasse Tyson and Austin Kleon.

Film: March 7-15. Conversations with Jason Bateman, Mike Myers, Ralph Steadman, Robert Duvall and Tilda Swinton are just a few of the big names to see in Austin during SXSW.

Music: March 11-16.  Over 1,700 artists will be showcased throughout the music festival.
