SXSW is back in town starting this Friday, March 11th, through March 20th and will be celebrating 30 years in Austin!!
The most exciting new event this year is that for the first time in the 30-year history of SXSW a sitting president will be a keynote speaker at the festival. This definitely shows how far this Austin original has come since its inception!
According to the SWSW website, “On Friday, March 11, President Obama will sit down with Evan Smith, CEO / Editor in Chief of The Texas Tribune, for a conversation about civic engagement in the 21st Century before an audience of creators, early adopters and entrepreneurs who are defining the future of our connected lives.”
Additionally, First Lady Michelle Obama is slated to appear Wednesday, March 16th, to discuss the Let Girls Learn initiative, which helps the 62 million girls around the world who are not in school.
As usual, the film portion of the event will begin the festival and will run from March 11-19. The interactive events run March 11-15 and the music will start March 15th and finish up the festival on March 20th.
The SXSW festival is a unique blend of technology, film and music and allows artists and attendees a great opportunity to learn about emerging creative ideas on all three fronts.
