August may be Austin’s hottest month, but it does not keep us from celebrating some of our greatest festivals outside in our great city!
The most apropos festival during this scorching summer month is the Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival at Fiesta Gardens on August 23rd from 11-5pm. This 24th annual tradition is free with a donation of three non-perishable food items and benefits the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas. If we can’t beat the heat, we might as well join it!! For more information, please go to www.austinchronicle.com.
The 11th Annual Bat Fest at Austin’s renowned Congress Avenue Bridge is scheduled for August 22nd from 4pm to midnight. Austin is home to a 1.5 million Mexican bat colony that emerges from under the bridge around dusk each night. The Bat Fest will also include three stages with live music, around 75 arts & crafts vendors, food and drinks, fun children’s activities, a bat costume contest and much more. Tickets are $15.00 and children 8 and under are free with the purchase of an adult ticket. This Austin original is a must see!!! For more information, please go to www.roadwayevents.com.
Lastly, Austin celebrates our LGBTQ community with the Austin Pride Parade (8pm) and Festival (11-6pm) at Fiesta Gardens on the shores of Lady Bird Lake on August 29th and raises funds for dozens of non-profit organizations each year. For more information, please go to www.austinpride.org .
